Engineers are currently investigating the issue.
Description of Issue:
When a user navigates using the arrow keys on JAWS and selects the '?' icon on the accessibility page ‘Why it matters’ dialog, the focus remains on the background text ignoring the sections on the popup window.
Expected Behavior:
JAWs should focus on the slide out window instead of the items behind it.
Actual Behavior:
Currently, JAWS will keep focus on the items behind the slide-out screen.
Steps to Reproduce:
Prerequisites: A Canvas course that is using the Course Accessibility Checker feature and the JAWs screenreader tool.
- In the canvas course, navigate to the Accessibility tab and scan the course.
- Once you get results, scroll down and select “Fix” to the right of one of the flagged items.
- On the new slide-out tab on the right, now navigate to the heading “Issue 1/9: Skipped heading level“ and select the '?' symbol to the right of it.
- Notice this triggers a new informational pop-up.
- As the user, use the keys to try to navigate on this new pop-out, but notice that you can’t and instead focus remains on the slide-out tab behind it.
