Summary:
When students answer a question which requires scientific notation using E notation (e.g. 1.48e-5) in a Formula type question, New Quizzes will convert the answer into decimals and it mark their answer wrong.
User Expected Behavior:
Students should be able to answer formula questions which require scientific notation in E notation and if correct, it should be marked as correct.* E notation is generally considered to be one of several ways to express scientific notation
Steps to Reproduce:
- Create a quiz that uses the New Quizzes engine.
- Create a formula type question.
- Set the variable values, formula definition and generate number of solutions.
- Enable Display as Scientific Notation.
- Preview the quiz or act as a student and take the quiz.
- Type the answer in E notation, e.g. 2.27e-1.
- Notice that the scientific notation gets converted into decimals and the answer is marked wrong.
