help with my students logging time (cosmetology school)

In cosmetology, our students have to clock hours. We've used "free for teacher Canvas" for years and can see in the "people" section how many hours, minutes, seconds a student has spent in the program. However, the last few days they are hardly showing any time even though I know they have been logged in. Is there a glitch anyone knows about? One girl was on over 6 hours actively participating and yet her time shows only 12 minutes. thanks for any help….anyone??

That behavior is quite interesting. Do you by chance have course analytics enabled in your course? Has anything there been reset or look different?

I'm guessing it's enabled because we can go look at their analytics. We've used it the same way for the last 8 years and every month we just copy the course keeping all things the same. I was thinking maybe there's a "glitch" since there's also the issue of not being able to copy courses right now either??

Yes, there is currently a glitch in the system. You cannot copy courses in free for teacher, and this has been an issue that the engineering team has been investigating for the past short while.

Once it's resolved, I'm hoping that the courses can be copied again, and that your information can be displayed correctly again.

I am having issues with online participation time being documented properly. If a student reviews a video inside CANVAS, does it not document that time spent watching the video?

original poster here. Still very frustrated since we've used Free canvas for almost 10 years now for our HUGE cosmetology program. These kids depend on being able to have their time tracked since they can't graduate until reaching 1000 hours. I've tested every which way all week to try to troubleshoot and no luck. I've had them log into Canvas and watch their video and do assignments and be sure to keep it "awake" and interact. After a 2 hour class doing this, analytics may show 12 minutes spent! I wait 24 hours and check again..still nothing. The "people" and time spent column shows they were active on that date and time but total time spent not accurate at all. Now we're scrambling to find another system to use otherwise we'll have lots not graduating this year. ugh.
