I am working with a partner school that has been told by their IT staff that you cannot cross list courses in Canvas and have IC integration two-way. Does anyone have experience with this, or has done this successfully? Thanks!
@cchristensen_MU Gotcha!
Long story short, it is possible to crosslist and make grade sync work. 😀
So normally with a SIS integration there's two parts — the part that the school/district sets up, and then the part that Instructure has to do to make things work on their end (mapping, connection, etc).
You'll first want to make sure that you're using the correct IC integration that allows for grade passback/grade sync. If you're not using the right connection, then you'll definitely won't be able to grade sync at all.
The second part is making sure that the SIS integration between IC and Canvas is mapping courses and sections correctly. I had to contact support for this part because we had a situation where we had two sections from two different schools into 1 course and grade sync wasn't working. Thankfully Instructure was able to make this situation work but they did something on the backend to do this.
In addition to all of this, you should crosslist first before setting up grade sync (it's best practice to crosslist first before doing anything in a course anyway).
Hope this helps!
@cchristensen_MU That's interesting! We just switched over to IC here in my state and I have many crosslisted courses (probably over 100 of them) with no issues with IC integration. When you mean "two-way", do you mean the SIS import (which is IC → Canvas) and the Grade Sync functionality (Canvas → IC)?
Yes, the grade sync part. They are newer to Canvas and I am thinking the "No" was more of a "we dont know how to do that" rather than a "it cannot be done". I have an instructor having to manage 12 sections of a course separately and that is nutso.
Do other users have to manually approve acceptance by IC of assignments synced from Canvas or can that process be automated so that if the Canvas Assignment Group and the IC category are identical, IC automatically accepts the grade and flag without the extra step of manually approving the sync?
Is there ANY way to automate/force Canvas to sync ungraded assignments with Veracross SIS? right now our only solution is to require teachers to enter a fake grade, sync, and then remove it. I am willing to entertain 3rd party solutions if there is one available.
Hello, Is anyone doing a grade sync from Canvas to Jenzabar? Thanks!
When a student turns in a late assignment, I need it to also show as late in Skyward. Having to go in and manually mark multiple assignments late for 130 students is tedious and time consuming. If Canvas recognizes the assignment as late, the same mark needs to be sent to Skyward when it is synced.Â
How do I add a student to an existing benchmark assessment tracker? The students were imported from our SIS when tracker was created and this student has recently enrolled.
My school has traditionally used a script to send files for SIS import, and sends CSV files for users, enrollments, courses, etc. I want to transition this import to use full batch imports for each term. I saw the full batch import script below for Powershell, but we use Linux servers. Does anyone have a version they would…
