Donot have valid data to test certain APIs

Hi ,

I’m working on validating the API test cases for CANVAS Api and need suitable test data to verify the 200 OK status code responses. I am using free for teachers version account. PFA Ecel sheet about the end points I am checking for.

From your Excel sheet (you mentioned, but I haven’t seen it), typical endpoints for Canvas API validation include:

• /api/v1/courses → list courses
• /api/v1/courses/:course_id → get course details
• /api/v1/users/self → get current user info
• /api/v1/accounts/self → account info
• /api/v1/courses/:course_id/assignments → list assignments
• /api/v1/courses/:course_id/sections → list sections

Prepare test data

Since you’re using a free account, some data might not exist yet. You need existing IDs to get 200 OK responses. Here’s how to prepare:
. Get all courses (your account)

✅ No test data needed. Will return a list of courses you own or are enrolled in.

. Get details of a specific course

• Replace <course_id> with a course you created in your Free-for-Teachers account.
• Returns 200 OK if course exists.

Get current user info

✅ Always returns 200 OK for your user. .

List assignments for a course

• Ensure the course has at least 1 assignment.
• If none exist, create a dummy assignment in Canvas.

List sections of a course

• Ensure the course has at least 1 section.
• If none exist, add a section via the Canvas UI.
  
  Tips for Free-for-Teachers accounts
• <your_canvas_domain> → usually canvas.instructure.com
• <your_access_token> → generate from Account → Settings → New Access Token
• <course_id> → from URL of your course in Canvas (e.g., /courses/12345)
• Endpoints that return lists (courses, assignments, sections) require at least one object to get 200 OK with data.
