Why does not the new gradebook sync not transfer the late and missing flags from Canvas to PowerSchool like the older version did?

The reason that the new OneRoster integration between Canvas and PowerSchool doesn't always include missing and late labels is largely because of the structure of the OneRoster API that is used.
The way the integration passes a student's grade or submission status for an assignment is in a Result object. In order for the missing or excluded to be sent to PS, the One Roster API requires a Score be included with the Result. Because of this if there is no grade, in the case of Missing a 0 is provided as the Score. In the case of excused/exempt/Excluded which may or may not have had a prior grade entered in Canvas before being excused, if there is no prior grade a 0 will be sent instead. Without a Score PowerSchool’s One Roster API, will reject the grade entirely.

The Latetag, is one that is not currently supported by the PowerSchool’s One Roster API, this has also already been mentioned to the PowerSchool management team, so those handling the One Roster API are aware of this limitation, meaning there’s nothing Canvas or PowerSchool can do to make Late work. If an assignment in Canvas is marked as Late and the late policy has deducted points from their Score then the intended reduced Score will be posted to PowerSchool.

Is there ANY way to automate/force Canvas to sync ungraded assignments with Veracross SIS? right now our only solution is to require teachers to enter a fake grade, sync, and then remove it. I am willing to entertain 3rd party solutions if there is one available.

When a student turns in a late assignment, I need it to also show as late in Skyward. Having to go in and manually mark multiple assignments late for 130 students is tedious and time consuming. If Canvas recognizes the assignment as late, the same mark needs to be sent to Skyward when it is synced.
How do I add a student to an existing benchmark assessment tracker? The students were imported from our SIS when tracker was created and this student has recently enrolled.
