I am looking for a book or two on AI to use as a book studies with teachers in my district. What have you read? Any suggestions for me?
I recently heard Beth Rudden speak at the COLTT 2023 conference and found her presentation incredibly helpful. She has written a book which covers similar themes, called AI For the Rest of Us, and while I haven't read it yet, it is on my list and I think it might be a great resource for an introduction to AI. I'm considering using it for a professional book club as well; I think it would be really valuable!
AI for Educators by Matt Miller is a good place to start. It can begin the conversation about how to think about AI and it's place in education going forward.
The AI Infused Classroom by Holly Clark show way AI can be used by teachers.
We joined a Perusall book club on Teaching with AI. The author answered questions about the book, and it provided a good if elementary analysis of how instruction may and should change in response to AI. It also shared advice on prompting.
I'm currently reading Atlas of AI, which addresses social impacts and ethical considerations. So far, the author seems to be lumping expert systems, neural networks, and generative AI into a single sinister whole. I'm hoping she'll add more nuance in later chapters.
