00:01: Welcome to elevate, standards, alignment, standards plus Edition onboarding.
00:05: In this video, we will provide an overview of getting started with the standards
00:09: plus Edition.
00:12: Where do I start with Elevate Standards Alignment, Standards Plus Edition?
00:18: The best place to get started is the API Documentation located in
00:22: the Developer Documentation Portal, where you will find AB Connect
00:26: interactive documentation. AB Connect refers to the
00:30: API. The documentation provides your development team
00:33: a wealth of information about the data available via the API and
00:38: how they can retrieve that data. But as a Product Manager, you
00:42: will also want to review the metadata that is available via the API and
00:46: determine what information is appropriate for your use case.
00:49: You can review the data using the example section in the documentation.
00:55: Select Elevate Standards Alignment under Partner Facing Services.
01:00: Expand the services menu, then the reference menu, and click Standards.
01:06: Scroll down to fetching a standard and view the details.
01:12: Here are some areas that can help to focus your review.
01:15: You’ll want to understand the hierarchy of the data.
01:18: Each standard has an Authority such as Texas, a Publication
01:22: such as Essential Knowledge and Skills, and a Document which is a subject and
01:26: adoption year. Additional insight into the data can be found in the API
01:31: documentation.
01:35: Let's explore the details. You'll want to consider the type
01:39: of numbering format you want to use. Raw
01:48: will be the number included in the state document and enhanced provides a little more
01:52: structure to the numbering, for example, by prepending parent numbers
01:56: to the standard number. The other types of numbering options are detailed
02:01: in the documentation.
02:06: The Utilization data included on a standard might include examples,
02:10: placeholders, clarifications, alignable, supporting, and
02:14: others. Reviewing this area will help you to direct your programming
02:18: team to those elements that are important to you.
02:23: Some other areas to focus review are the years associated with a document
02:28: including, adoption year, implementation, and assessment years.
02:37: Standard Type describes the organizational levels within a document and includes
02:41: information like Curriculum Area, Context, Theme, Objective,
02:45: Example, etc.
02:50: Additional metadata can include standards in a list and Controlled Strand
02:54: Vocabulary. The Events endpoint details the changes that have been made to
02:58: a standard or document, as well as any new standards that are now available.
03:02: If you plan to store standards data, this can be an important area
03:07: for deciding what type of events will require an update of your data.
03:14: In Elevate Standards Alignment, Standards Plus Edition,
03:17: we provide multiple relationship types
03:19: that can be used to expand your current alignment to other authorities or other documents
03:24: within the same authority. We’ll define those here to help you decide
03:28: which combination of relationships works best for you.
03:33: An Origin standard is typically a national document like the Common Core
03:37: State Standards.
03:40: A derivative standard is when a state has adopted a standard identical
03:44: or similar to the origin, the API provides you data
03:48: to know if the standard has been modified or is identical to its origin,
03:52: the origin and derivative relationships are related relationships.
03:59: Peer derivatives are related through a common origin standard an
04:03: example of this relationship includes two states that have adopted the Common Core
04:07: State Standards.
04:10: Replaces replaced by relationships are created when a state provides
04:14: guidance on how to migrate alignments from one document to another or
04:18: when they make an update within a document.
04:22: Crosswalks are curated by a set of rules and help users better understand similarities
04:26: among standards making alignment updates more seamless subject, matter experts
04:30: identify the skills, encompassed, by the standards, and at a high level two.
04:34: Standards are crosswalk when they have one or more skills in common.
04:37: This relationship considers the authors intent as well as the context of the standard Can
04:42: your product make use of these relationships if so you will want to understand how each of them
04:46: works?
04:50: Now that you understand the data elements, you can work with your development team
04:54: on your API integration. If they do not already have a link
04:58: to the documentation and your API keys, please share that with them your
05:03: development team will help you decide if they want to use API calls to limit
05:07: the standards documents in your product or if you should manage standards using
05:11: our user interface.
05:14: If you determine it is best to manage standards data using our user interface,
05:18: then you can do so by logging on to the academic Benchmark system there
