As you know, we recently took Canvas Free-for-Teacher offline in response to the security incident. We will provide next steps and action plans here in the community Tuesday, May 26th regarding Free-for-Teacher access.
Hi. Is there any possible way to recover the grades I have in the FFT account? I really need the grades of my students which I am unable to recover. The due of the grades are in the first week of June
Finally, there is a date to look forward to.
Thank you
@privacy_team, If we are on a list to receive an export package, should we still be looking for that email with a link to download? Or does the May 26th announcement take the place of being sent the export package?
This is great news! Thank you so much for the update!!
So you know what the next steps will be but are making us wait another week?
Hi @Mark_S1,
I do not have any specific inside information and I understand your frustration.
This post was made by the @Privacy_Team on Wednesday, May 20th at 8:18 PM ET. That date is before the Memorial Day holiday weekend in the United States.
My guess is Instructure is waiting until after that holiday so that they are able to better monitor and support FFT.

I have seen the May 26th update, but there is no mention of the next steps for FFT accounts. I thought that the May 26th update was supposed to address FFT accounts. Do we not have any further information about FFT?
Exactly! I have been reloading the page this morning!
Common, please say something!
I find irony in this statement from Steve Daly's May 26 update: "One of the most important things you’ve made clear is that Canvas is critical infrastructure, and when something disrupts that (especially at the end of the semester), the ripple effects are enormous."
A comment in a discussion says that emails were sent out that there is limited access from noon today until noon tomorrow. I did not receive the email, most likely because I'm not associated with a paying institution. Can someone please find out how the rest of us can get access to get our information off Canvas to move somewhere else? And, why did the post say that we would get info here when the intention was to only send to some educations?
This was posted the Canvas FFT Discussion Forum: ""We wanted to make you aware that we are temporarily restoring access to the product in a secure, limited capacity from 12 am ET on May 28 through 11:59 pm ET on May 29 to enable educators who rely on the platform to safely download course content and close out the school year."
However, I did not receive an email nor may I access my courses.
Any update on when we will find out additional information? Will FFT be back online soon? I have over a decades worth of assignments, exams, exam questions, and data that I desperately need access to. Anything will be much appreciated!
Some people have been saying that an email was sent out, but I have recieved no email and according to this exact post, you said that Instructure would, "provide next steps and action plans here in the community Tuesday, May 26th regarding Free-for-Teacher access," and yet there is no update posted here. This is getting absolutely ridiculous.
The pending communication will provide you with a better option.
@MandyKlenk38027653 the communication will be posted in the next couple hours - stay tuned.
@KarianaBeyer81534168 you're in the right place to watch for the pending communication. The number of Free-for-Teacher accounts was too large to mail without huge bounce risk. We'll be posting the comm here soon.
Please see the updated communication here
Thank you for responding. Will our courses look similar to how we left them? Will the user interface be what we were used to before these security events? What export protocols can we familiarize ourselves with ahead of the access period? I need my work so much so that I'm willing to practice and train over the next few days.
The emotional toll and stress is very real for some of us who only had FFT accounts. We feel very forgotten and left in the dark. The desperation is real and the stakes are very high.
Thank you for linking the update post here! Do you know if a paid individual option is in the works?
Hi! Your course should look just as it was when you last accessed it. We have created a guide that will walk you through how to export your course and individual content items. I hope this helps! https://community.instructure.com/en/kb/articles/664584-exporting-and-moving-canvas-content
@Renee Carney Thank you for the guidance. we appreciate it. Should Free For Teachers have any expectation that FFT will return? This will help with our decision making in seeking out other platforms.
@EricWalters This is what we have been sharing
In the coming weeks, we will be in touch to share more information about how we plan to support our Free-For-Teacher users moving forward. We are committed to providing a free offering for individual educators.
@KarianaBeyer81534168 We're discussing many options right now and will communicate when we have those solidified.
