Summary
Course Readiness includes a Compliance tab with criteria that evaluate course accessibility using results from the Canvas Course Accessibility Checker.
- Latest Accessibility Scan
- Open Accessibility Issues
- Critical Accessibility Issues
- High Accessibility Issues
- Medium Accessibility Issues
Note: These criteria can each be turned on or off individually.
Change Benefit
- Consistent Scanning: Courses get flagged when they haven’t been scanned recently, so checks stay current.
- Enforced Standards: Users can hold every course to your institution’s accessibility thresholds.
- More Inclusive Courses: Meeting the criteria supports a better experience for every student.
Feature Workflow
In the Course Readiness Criteria page, click the Add Criteria button.
To configure the Compliance Accessibility settings, click the Compliance tab [1]. The following Compliance Accessibility settings are available:
- Latest Accessibility Scan [2]: The course has been scanned recently enough by the Canvas Course Accessibility Checker.
- Open Accessibility Issues [3]: The course has no more than the allowed number of open accessibility issues.
- Accessibility Issues with Critical severity [4]: The course has no more than the allowed number of Critical-severity issues.
- Accessibility Issues with High severity [5]: The course has no more than the allowed number of High-severity issues.
- Accessibility Issues with Medium severity [6]: The course has no more than the allowed number of Medium-severity issues.
Accessibility Analytics
Unscanned Courses
Location to Enable Feature | NA |
Name of LTI Tool | Admin and Course Analytics |
Permissions | Intelligent Insights / Accessibility Analytics |
Affects User Interface | Yes |
Affected Areas | Accessibility Analytics |
Summary
The Accessibility Analytics dashboard organizes its course list into two tabs, so users can view scanned and unscanned courses separately and act on each group.
- Scanned Courses (default): The existing Courses table, showing courses scanned by the Canvas Course Accessibility Checker within the selected time frame.
- Unscanned Courses: Courses in your current filtered scope that have no recent scan.
Change Benefit
- Faster Follow-Up: Spot courses without recent scans and reach the teachers who own them in one place.
- Bulk Messaging: Message every unscanned course at once instead of tracking them down individually.
Feature Workflow
- Scanned Courses [1]: The tab shows courses scanned by the Canvas Course Accessibility Checker within the selected time frame.
- Unscanned Courses [2]: The tab follows the Last Accessibility Scan filter. If a user filters to the last seven days, a course appears unscanned if it has no scan in that window, even if it was scanned before that period.
- Search [3]: Runs within the active tab only.
- Messaging [4]: Runs within the active tab only. Bulk messaging reaches every course listed in the active tab and respects the applied filters. The Unscanned Courses tab uses its own message template.
