What’s New in New Quizzes: The Updates You’ve Been Asking ForAt Canvas, our roadmap is shaped by the voices of our educators and administrators. Over the past two years, we’ve been listening closely to your feedback, and we know that achieving full functional parity between Classic and New Quizzes has been a top request.
Today, we’re excited to share a set of meaningful updates that move us significantly closer to that goal. From robust survey tools to high-fidelity data access and a native integration in Canvas, these releases are a direct result of our commitment to your success. We’ve heard your needs, and we are delivering the features required to make New Quizzes the primary assessment powerhouse for your institution.
1. Comprehensive Surveys: Streamlining the Feedback Loop
Surveys are a critical component of the instructional cycle, and we’ve worked hard to ensure New Quizzes provides the same flexibility you’ve come to expect. Following our initial launch of graded, ungraded, and anonymous surveys on December 13, 2025, we are completing the workflow with a major follow-up release on March 21, 2026.
Integrating surveys into New Quizzes streamlines the feedback process, making it easier for instructors to collect crucial data on student understanding, course effectiveness, and overall experience. This leads to data-driven instructional improvements, increased student engagement, and a more unified assessment workflow within Canvas.
- New Results Visibility: Instructors can now click the response count in Survey Reports to see exactly which students selected a specific answer. To protect student privacy in anonymous surveys, identities are automatically masked (e.g., Student 1, Student 2).
- CSV Data Export: You can now export survey responses to a CSV file, including respondent names (for non-anonymous surveys), timestamps, and all answer data. This makes it easier to analyze feedback patterns and securely share information for institutional records.
2. Deep Insights with the New Quizzes Data Access Platform / Canvas Data 2 Integration
We are thrilled to announce a major expansion of the Canvas Data 2 (CD2) / DAP Query API datasets: the dedicated availability of data for New Quizzes! This release is a direct result of our ongoing commitment to enhance data extensibility and transparency for our community.
The new new_quizzes namespace is officially available starting March 16, 2026. This expansion aligns with the critical backend infrastructure upgrade we completed in November 2025, which was specifically designed to open up possibilities for adding additional data sources.
What This Means for Your Data Strategy:
The addition of the new_quizzes namespace is a significant step toward providing comprehensive, high-fidelity data to institutions. This structure allows users to efficiently manage and query all New Quizzes data separately from existing Canvas data, enabling massive value for institutional research, accreditation, and bespoke reporting.

3. Native Canvas Integration: Seamless, Accessible, and Fast
Closing this great list of additions, a significant architectural leap is the transition of New Quizzes into a Native Canvas Integration. By moving New Quizzes out of an "iframe" and running it natively within the Canvas page, we have unlocked a smoother, more reliable experience for both faculty and students.
- Accessibility Without Barriers: This change ensures that browser-based accessibility tools function exactly as they should. We are particularly excited to announce that ReadSpeaker is now fully supported within New Quizzes. By removing the iframe barrier, ReadSpeaker can now seamlessly read assessment content aloud, ensuring a more inclusive experience for all learners.
- Partner Readiness & Continuity: We know that compatibility with third-party tools—especially proctoring—is a top priority for your institution. To ensure a smooth transition, we have worked closely with our key partners to ensure they are "Dual-Support Ready." This means these tools will function correctly whether you are using the legacy iframe or the new native architecture:
- Respondus
- Proctorio
- Honorlock
- Schoolyear
- Smowltech
- SmarterServices
To ensure a smooth transition, the native experience was made available as off by default beginning March 26, 2026 and will be enabled by default for all Canvas environments on July 1, 2026.

Tracking Your Institutional Transition
As these functional gaps close, many institutions are looking to monitor their New Quizzes adoption. You can easily track this via the Analytics Hub in the Course Overview dashboard.
A simple comparison of the New Quizzes bar vs. the Classic Quizzes bar in the features graph provides a quick visual indicator of your progress. You can also apply filters for specific sub-accounts or terms and export granular course-level data to identify which departments may need extra support.
The Path Forward
With these releases, the final barriers to adoption are falling away and New Quizzes now provides the robust, data-rich, and accessible environment your educators deserve.
