We’re excited to share our latest Platform roadmap, which highlights our team’s priorities for strengthening the foundation that supports teaching, learning, and institutional operations across the Instructure ecosystem. From Intelligent Insights and Impact to LearnPlatform, IgniteAI Agent, and Elevate Standards Alignment, these investments are designed to help institutions operate with greater clarity, confidence, and efficiency.
Over the past quarter, we’ve collaborated closely with educators, administrators, and institutional leaders through interviews, surveys, advisory councils, community conversations, and early adopter programs. These conversations help us understand where workflows break down and where shared infrastructure, insights, and AI-driven capabilities can make the biggest difference. The priorities in this roadmap reflect the themes we heard most consistently from customers.
Because this roadmap spans several platform products, we’ll call out which product each initiative applies to throughout.
Your feedback has shaped the roadmap
We’ve had the privilege of connecting with you, our customers, in a variety of ways over the last few months. Our roadmap reflects what we’ve heard, and the insights you’ve shared have directly informed and sharpened our current priorities.
Here’s some of what you told us:
Insights must be contextual and actionable.
Institutions value analytics that bring together multiple signals and surface meaningful recommendations—not just dashboards. At the same time, teams need flexibility through role-based permissions, customization, and reporting controls so insights can support a wide range of institutional workflows.
AI must be embedded and trusted.
Educators want AI that supports the workflows they already rely on, rather than introducing entirely new processes. They emphasized the importance of guardrails, guided prompting, streamlined approvals, and transparent methodologies—particularly for compliance-sensitive use cases.
The ecosystem must be connected and measurable.
Canvas and LearnPlatform administrators often work closely together but lack unified visibility across their tools. Institutions want tighter integration, clearer LTI and in-browser usage insights, and stronger connections between product usage data and Outcomes Analysis so they can better demonstrate EdTech ROI.
Early adopter programs for IgniteAI Agent and Intelligent Insights (including RSI and Accessibility Insights) helped reinforce these insights and showed how institutions want these capabilities to fit into real workflows.
When testing these experiences, institutions consistently told us:
- Small workflow and placement decisions can significantly impact adoption.
- Guided AI experiences and simplified approval models increase institutional confidence.
- File uploads and richer contextual inputs are essential for meaningful AI-powered analysis.
- Analytics adoption increases when insights are clear, contextual, and explainable.
Across these conversations, one theme came through clearly: institutions aren’t necessarily looking for more tools or more data. They’re looking for insights they can trust and a more connected ecosystem that reduces manual work while giving them better visibility and control.
Outcomes we’re driving toward
The insights we heard from institutions are directly shaping how we’re evolving Instructure’s platform – it boils down to 4 key outcomes:
1: Institutional intelligence at scale
Institutions can move from reactive reporting to proactive, decision-ready insight, without relying on complex exports, SQL queries, or fragmented dashboards.
What we’re focused on:
- Expanding Ask Your Data to include New Quizzes, LTI launch activity, Studio engagement, and extended historical data (Intelligent Insights)
- Enabling cross-account and consortium-level querying for centralized reporting (Intelligent Insights)
- Delivering customizable dashboard views with saved filters and role-based access controls (Intelligent Insights)
- Improving data transparency with real-time freshness and latency indicators (Intelligent Insights)
- Providing proactive cohort insights, including Students in Need of Attention and screen-time monitoring (Intelligent Insights)
2: Compliance & risk automation
Institutions can proactively protect funding, meet accessibility and accreditation standards, and automate compliance workflows instead of reacting to audits.
What we’re focused on:
- Automated Regular & Substantive Interaction (RSI) monitoring to protect federal financial aid eligibility (Intelligent Insights)
- Accessibility Insights dashboards to visualize institutional accessibility health (Intelligent Insights)
- Course Readiness enhancements, including accessibility criteria, broken link checks, institutional overviews, and time-bound compliance stages (Intelligent Insights)
- Seamless CASE Network interoperability to meet evolving standards reporting requirements (Elevate Standards Alignment)
3: Embedded AI-driven efficiencies
AI has massive potential to accelerate workflows and reduce manual effort so institutions can do more with fewer resources. Institutions and administrators stay firmly in control of how AI operates within their environment.
What we’re focused on:
- Expanding IgniteAI Agent globally to serve institutions in Europe and ANZ next (IgniteAI Agent)
- Enabling document upload and real-time analysis (IgniteAI Agent)
- Integrating IgniteAI Agent with in-line Canvas IgniteAI workflows (e.g., rubric generation, discussion insights) (IgniteAI Agent)
- Leveraging AI to power standards alignment and accelerate curriculum mapping (Elevate Standards Alignment)
- Using AI within Intelligent Insights to surface risk, compliance gaps, and intervention opportunities (Intelligent Insights)
4: Unified & connected edtech ecosystem
Administrators and educators operate within one connected ecosystem instead of fragmented tools, siloed data, or disconnected workflows.
What we’re focused on:
- Unified Canvas LTI usage analytics within LearnPlatform (LearnPlatform)
- Integrated LearnPlatform resource sharing directly inside Canvas (LearnPlatform)
- Consolidated project management and reporting (Elevate Standards Alignment)
- Cross-account visibility for consortia and multi-instance organizations (Intelligent Insights)
One last note – you may notice that we haven’t provided an update on our Impact product here. That's because we're developing something truly exciting related to Impact that we plan to unveil at our New & Next Showcase in April. Register for details!
