lock_at date for group discussions persists when switched from ungraded to graded

This behavior has been resolved and deployed to the production environment as of 3/12/25.

Description

• When an ungraded group discussion is changed to a graded discussion, clearing the until date does not clear the “lock_at” date for the discussion object.

Expected Behavior

• Clearing the Until date should remove lock_at date for discussion and assignment object.

Workaround

• Remove the until date and save the discussion prior to changing it to a graded discussion.

Steps to Reproduce

1. Create an ungraded group discussion and set a value in the Until date field and save.

2. Edit the discussion and select “Graded”

3. Once the UI changes to show Assign to box, clear the until date and save

4. Check the discussions API and note that the “lock_at” field for the discussion is not null and assignment “lock_at” is null.
