How are integration_ids used?

Hi --

The Canvas API documentation mentions that some objects (users, courses, terms) can have an "integration_id" which is "a secondary identifier useful for more complex SIS integrations". Does anyone here use the integration_id field, and if so, how do you use it?

I wasn't able to find any documentation beyond what I mentioned above, but if anyone has any pointers, please let me know!
