Bulk Gradebook Export

Question

There doesn't appear to be an API to grab the equivalent of a gradebook export, and Canvas Data 2 doesn't seem to have anything easily generated either.

Given recent events, people are asking if we can bulk export the gradebooks from our courses, i.e. grades for each assignment by course/student.

Am I missing a report or some other mechanism?

Yes, I recognize that I might be able to use CD2, but I'd like to match faculty expectations of what they see in their gradebook. If there was a definitive query that accomplished that, that would be great, but clearly, it would be complicated.

We're too big to make Power Automate practical.

Hello @dtod - I had created a report that pulls course/assignment/submission score information via CD2. If I was to redo this, I would use data from the following tables: account, courses, course_sections, assignments, submissions, enrollments, users, and pseudonyms (to get email (unique id) and SIS ID). I might add enrollments, etc.,. twice to enable filtering each by enrollment type (teacher vs. student).

An alternative approach would be to use Power Automate to go to the Grades page in each course and perform a process to select Export > Export Entire Gradebook. I don't care for the default naming convention of the generated csv so I'd be sure to set the course or course section SIS ID as a variable and append that to the file name. Doing so will ensure for unique file names.
