Tracking completion of a module across courses

Hi everyone,

Our institution has developed a non-mandatory Academic Integrity module that an instructor can include in their course if they wish. Unfortunately, we have no way of tracking a student's completion of a module across courses; students end up having to complete it for each course in which it has been included. Our Academic Integrity office has asked that we automatically produce a certificate for the student so they can request an exemption from the module — i.e., by showing it to the instructor as proof of completion.

I feel like there must be a better way to do this in Canvas — any suggestions?

Hi there!

We launched an Academic Integrity training at our Instution a few years ago. For ours, it is a stand alone, self enroll course that is administered centrally as it was important for us to maintain a level of control over content. We verify completion through the issuance of a badge. Originally we used the free version of Canvas Badges/Credentials, but when Instructure moved away from free badges, we started using our Institution's Accredible license to issue a badge for completion. To your point about tracking completion, I can go into our Accredible dashboard and verify a student has completed it (or I can also go into the course gradebook if I need to look more granularly), so the standalone course makes tracking a lot easier. As with yours, it's non-mandatory, but some instructors have required it for their students to complete, so we send instructors a short URL with the self enroll link and then consult on how they manage verifying completion for their needs as needed.
