No API for Diff Tags

Question

Hiya, it seems that there's no API for diff tags. This seems quite problematic to me as they are being used for marking groups, but then there's no way to use that grouping when getting data out of Canvas LMS. Is there any plan in the works for diff tags to be in the API?

Hi @SPhillipson,

Differentiation tags seem to be a special subset of groups on the back-end of Canvas, so you'll need to look at the Groups API for this.  The key is that differentiation tags are "non_collaborative" (this is a parameter of groups).  For example, to list differentiation tags in a course, you can use "/api/v1/courses/:course_id/groups?collaboration_state=non_collaborative".  The API documentation doesn't exactly call this out, but I think you'd be able to set non_collaborative as true in the create a group API to create a differentiation tag (please note I did not test this, so it may not be true).

Oh that did help, my script to bulk download papers, grouped by diff tags now works. Thanks a million Chris!
