When students enroll in a program, they expect to start learning right away. But in Catalog, that first step has not always been smooth. Instead of seeing all their courses in Canvas, students had to manually launch each one before it appeared on their dashboard.
That extra step often caused confusion. Students wondered if something went wrong. Institutions saw an uptick in support tickets. And in some cases, learners simply didn’t start at all.
Now, when students enroll in a program, they are automatically enrolled in the right set of courses without needing to manually start each one. For standard programs, this means all courses appear in the Canvas Dashboard right away. For sequential programs, students are enrolled in the first course in the sequence, keeping the programs’ structure intact while reducing friction.
Designed for learner momentum
When students see the full scope of their program from the start, they’re more confident and more engaged. Auto-enroll ensures every course is ready to go, helping students build momentum from day one. Whether the program is self-paced or sequential, this update supports clarity and continuity.
Simplified administration
For institutions, auto-enroll reduces confusion and the need for manual follow-up. It gives Catalog admins greater control over the learner journey and ensures a consistent experience across all programs.
This setting is already enabled by default for new programs and can be activated for any existing one with a quick toggle in the program setup.
Better visibility. Better outcomes.
This feature supports a smoother onboarding experience, clearer program structure, and faster course engagement. Institutions benefit from improved completion rates and a more scalable learner experience, especially in programs with many courses or defined pathways.
Get started
To turn on auto-enroll, open any program in Catalog, go to the Requirements tab, and toggle the setting. That’s it. Make program access instant. Let students focus on learning from the very first click.
