Can students edit but not delete their own discussion posts?

In discussions, can students be able to edit their posts but not delete their own discussions? In the Course Settings, there is currently an option to allow "Let students edit or delete their own discussion replies."

I don't want students to delete a post, because then they may inadvertently delete any replies to their post. However, I would like them to be able to edit their own post in case they make any mistakes.

An ideal feature would retain past versions of deleted posts, so they could be examined.

In addition to accidentally deleting classmate replies, I can think of situations where it would be helpful to document any deleted posts.
