Please can we see some better admin controls for portfolio for K12 use?
I am a huge fan of portfolios and badges but would like to have greater controls for how they are used by students. At a certain stage, it will be important to share credentials and portfolios outside of the school but that really should be at the decision of the school, admin and teachers for all manner of safeguarding, privacy and data protection reasons.
I want our students to be able to use features like credential and portfolios. GenAI is already having a considerable impact on traditional methods of assessment. I really think that credentials/portfolios will become increasingly important as ways of reflecting genuine learning. However, use of Canvas at K12 is very different from use in Higher education. The LMS needs to have features to reflect this if it is genuinely calling itself a tool for all stages of a student's learning journey.
Would it not be possible to add in a role permission for portfolios to block sharing and publication with the outside? Perhaps there could be 3 options. No share, Share within the organisation and Share externally. This would allow school to put together strategies and policies for their use, including conversations with students about personal data, privacy etc.
