Production Updates
We're continuing to make strides with the IgniteAI Item Authoring Assistance Early Access Program! This week, we want to provide you with an update on the production side of things.
We've identified and are actively working to resolve a couple of bugs that some of you may have encountered:
- Rate Limit Issues: We've observed instances where users are hitting rate limits when creating a high volume of items. Our team is investigating this to ensure a smoother experience for all users.
- Multiple Use on Same Quiz: Some users have reported issues when attempting to use the Item Authoring Assistance feature multiple times on the same new quiz. We are prioritizing a fix for this to improve the overall usability.
- Character Limits Impact Canvas Page Content: if you upload content via your Canvas pages, Item Authoring Assistance currently counts the characters in that content and will cap at 20,000 characters. If you exceed this, you will get an error message letting you know. We are exploring, and would love your feedback, on whether or not we should increase this character limit for Canvas Pages. Reply to this Blog Post to let us know what you think!
- Some of you have experienced an error message when utilizing Item Authoring Assistance even after confirming that your source content is under 20,000 characters. LLMs are not deterministic so sometimes they generate invalid formats for our tool. In this case we retry to parse the data, but after a certain number of tried the tool errors out. We are working to refine this, but the quickest way to try again is to hit the generate button again.
We appreciate your patience and continued feedback as we work to resolve these issues and enhance the stability of the feature.
Weekly Task to Try Out
Literacy and critical thinking are important competencies across disciplines. This week, we'd like you to try out Item Authoring Assistance’s ability to create reading comprehension and critical thinking questions to see how well it comprehensively covers the important topics of a reading passage. Try out this task:
- Find a document or reading passage that you would give your students to read prior to coming to class or that they should read as part of asynchronous instruction.
- Create a Quiz and use IgniteAI Item Authoring Assistance.
- Upload the reading passage.
- Enter the main topics of the passage.
- Use the Outcomes feature and ask IgniteAI to write questions aligned to the outcome. If you don’t have a critical thinking or literacy outcome in your course, here are a few you could upload upload and try out:
- Discipline-Specific Literacy: Students understand how knowledge is organized into disciplines and how this impacts information access.
- Critical Thinking: Students can apply the methods, concepts, and techniques from their academic discipline to interpret information, make decisions, and solve problems.
