I have noticed that the pop up message that used to appear in Speedgrader when you accidentally gave a score higher than the allotted points for the assignment no longer appears in Modernized Speedgrader. Can this feature be added back in?

Thanks for reporting this problem! This functionality has now been added and you should see alert messages for unusually high scores and negative scores.
