Quickest way to evaluate the API without an account?

I need to evaluate some things in the API, e.g. get my account information, get a list of enrolled courses, etc.

What is the easiest free way to do this? I looked at the free canvas.instructure.com account but that didn't pan out. Do I need to download and install the codebase to a server to evaluate the API?
