As an IT guy, I can tell you that gentleman had the worst workday of his career and probably for the rest of his career if he can get a job in IT again.
In fairness to the engineer "who broke the Internet," Business Insider's headline seems like a bit of an overstatement. Amazon's write-up about the incident seems to indicate that it was more of a typo than entering the wrong command. Perhaps analogous to accidentally entering too many zeros in an online deposit.
