How do I hide the rubric for an assignment until the students have submitted their work? I have the correct answers in the rubric and do not want them to see it until I finish grading (using the rubric).
Hi @ginner_hudson - If you have already created the assignment with the rubric, there is no way to hide it from students. However, there is absolutely nothing to prevent you from adding the rubric at any point in time. You can wait until everyone has submitted the assignment, and then head back to the assignment in question and add the rubric then. That +Rubric button that you see at the bottom of an assignment when you click upon it will always be there.
While I am certainly no expert on rubrics--and please do not interpret this comment as coming from someone who is (I work in a teaching center as the more "tech" person)--I might suggest that if there is a right and a wrong answer, the assignment in question may not even need a rubric and perhaps may best be graded by using comments back to the student or, perhaps, simply conveying a message to the class as a whole somehow. But this may be a complex assignment, so there could be other factors involved, such an answer that is "more wrong" than others!
Anyway, the bottom line is that you can always add the rubric at any point in time, not just at the time of creation. If you have already created it, what you may want to do is make sure that it also has been added to your Outcomes menu item (check How do I manage rubrics in a course? ) and then remove it from the Assignment. Hi: I'm a newbie to Canvas and I'm not familiar with Outcomes, so this suggestion may be redundant. In any case, I too prefer to hide the rubric associated with an assignment because I believe students should be able to follow the directions in the assignment itself. If you are like me, I would prefer to have the rubric ready to go immediately after the deadline rather than have to create it on the spot. You could always create a duplicate assignment that contains the rubric but simply not publish it, or you could create the rubric in a Sandbox course and copy it over to your live course. The only thing I would caution you about is that when you import a rubric from another course there are a series of check box questions regarding how the rubric will be used, e.g. "use the rubric for assignment grading", and all the boxes will be unchecked. I learned this the hard way when rubric grades were not being automatically transferred into the grade book.

I don't understand the logic of this... why would instructure make it so a grading rubric either cannot be created before launching an assignment or must be made public if it is...? Are they using rubrics as a kind of instruction rather than evaluation?
I would also like to hid the rubric. Except I want it so the students and I can UNHIDE it.
Most of my rubrics are very long and it's a real pain for both the students and me to have to scroll, scroll, scroll to get to the next thing to do. I would like to have them hidden and set up so either the students and I can unhide them to look at them.
