As an instructor, you can add links to the Course Navigation menu by accessing Course Settings. These links provide quick access to internal resources, external resources, and institutional tools.
Notes:
- If you do not have access, ask an admin to enable permissions.
- When you copy a course containing a link to an external resource, the link remains functional in the new course.
- When you copy a course containing a link to an internal resource, Canvas automatically updates references to point to the new course.
- When you export a course, Canvas includes links in the exported course content.
- Links cannot be edited after they are added. You must delete the existing link and create a new one to make changes.
Open Settings
In Course Navigation, click the Settings link.
Open Navigation Tab
In the Course Details page, click the Navigation tab.
Add Link
On the Navigation page, click the Add a Link button.
Add Link Details
To add display text to your link, enter it in the Text field [1].
To add a link, enter it in the Link field [2].
Save Link
To disregard your changes, click the Cancel button [1].
To add the link, click the Add button [2].
Save Changes
To apply your new custom link [1], click the Save button [2].
View or Edit Link
The custom link displays in the Course Navigation [1].
To manage your custom link, click the Options icon [2]. You can disable, move, or delete the link.
To disable the link, click the Disable option [3]. Disabling a page redirects students who visit that page to the Course Home Page.
To move a custom link, click the Move option [4]. The Move Navigation Item sidebar displays [5]. To choose where to place your custom link, click the Place Link drop-down menu [6]. To cancel your changes, click the Cancel button [7]. To apply your changes, click the Move button [8].
Alternatively, you can drag and drop the Custom Link box [9] to the desired location.
To delete your custom link, click the Delete link [10].
Notes:
- To make changes to a custom link (such as the URL or Title), delete the existing link and create a new one.
- Whether it's an external link or a Canvas URL, the link opens in a new tab.
