I cannot copy a course - I keep getting a message that there was an error and to reload page.....HELP
Hi @SarahSiroka - What are the exact steps you are following? And are you Copying a course? Or importing content from a course?
At our school district, only a Canvas Admin can copy a course (but teachers can import content from a course).
I do know that on some rare occasions when teachers have imported, and they had an error, it was either because their course exceeded the courses size limitations, OR there was something else corrupted in their course. A couple of example of issue with something being corrupted in their course was: way toooooo many Assignments in a course, and this happened because they accidentally had imported a course multiple times, have 4 or 5 or more copies of their Assignment Groups and Assignments. In another example they had bad HTML code on some pages, which was causing issues.
I have the same issue for a course that I have copied a lot of time in the past without any issues. I keep getting: "Something went wrong during copy course operation. Reload the page and try again.". Any idea on what is going on?
The steps are the same steps that I always do:
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance.
Abd.
I wish I had a clue = has anyone out there copied a course successfully????
seems to work now for me too - so odd -
I been having issues trying to create new courses from existing courses. It show error when uploading at the end. What can I do as it is so frusturating.
Same has been happening to me. Have you found a workaround?
I followed exactly these same steps which has always worked.
Same thing happening to me. I just tried starting with a new course & copying content & assignments from last semester's course. That isn't working either.
I have copied courses for years and never had a problem until now. Our semester starts in a few days, so I'm in a total panic. I'm using a free teacher account so I don't have support on my (Blackboard) campus.
No workaround. I just tried opening a new course & copying individual content & assignments from last semester's version. That's not working either.
This is the first time in years that I've needed tech support from Canvas & cannot find anything other than their chatbot—no phone number or email.
Hi @AnneHird3958777 …
I assume that you are using the Course Import Tool to copy (import) content from one course to another, right? I'm also assuming that you have access to your previous course and your current course so that you can import content. When importing content, I always suggest that people log into the course that does not have any content in it (your current course). Then, using the Course Import Tool, you would select the past course that has the content, and then the Course Import Tool would copy (import) the content for you.
This is the Guide I recommend using. Again, log in to your current course. Then, when you get about half-way down this Guide, under the section on "Search Course", this is where you would select your past course.
How do I copy content from another Canvas course using the Course Import tool? - Instructure Community
I hope this will help a bit, Anne. Sing out if you have any questions about this. Thanks!
Did you figure out a fix for this?
Did you ever find a fix for this?
Suggestion: IB and AP are moving to all digital. Currently, if we want peer reviews for in class essays, we have to use the assignment feature. Could we use the quizzes feature so we can use the lockdown browser AND also assign peer reviews? This would help support the integrity of the timed essay.
I've had some faculty ask if could block agentic browsers such as Comet, ChatGPT Atlas, and Dia from being able to access Canvas. Have any schools taken a stance on this? Has Instructure mentioned any technical controls around this topic? I was unable to find any articles in a quick search, other than requiring LDB for all…
Breakout Discussions would enable instructors to orchestrate multi-phase discussions that mirror effective classroom facilitation patterns. An instructor creates a master discussion topic, then segments participants into small breakout groups for focused conversation, and finally reconvenes everyone into a unified thread…
Hi all, Quick question about the Gradebook color status for a 2-part checkpoint discussion. If a student completes the first due date (initial post) but does not complete the required replies by the second due date, is there any way for Canvas to automatically show a color (e.g., missing/late) instead of staying as…
Among all the things that I wish Canvas had is that one! Is it something that is been worked on? We had it in Blackboard (legacy) and I sorely miss and need in Canvas (we just transitioned to it from Bb). Please add this very needed feature!
