What is the maximum number of people visible on the screen on BIGBLUEBUTTON conference session?
We have 50 students for a course. How will they see the Faculty & all the students? We have video mode mandatory for all students. Please advice.
Hi, I’m Fred Dixon, the product manager for BigBlueButton. While I don’t work at Instructure and can’t speak on their behalf, I can answer your question.
You can view a maximum of 25 webcams in BigBlueButton at one time. The instructor can paginate left/right through the webcams.
We highlight each speaker's webcam as they talk, and we automatically move the most recent speakers to the top of the webcams so you can always see who is speaking.
There is a built-in version of BigBlueButton that is hosted by Blindside Networks that has some restrictions on webcams -- students can't see each other's webcams, but faculty can see all student webcams.
Contact me if you'd like to explore further what we can do in our enhanced version that provides webcam visibility to all.
Regards,... Fred
P.S. I moonlight as the CEO of Blindside Networks
Hello @MamathaKuchibho - for details on using the Bigbluebutton conferencing tool I went over to the documentation and help pages on that site. Here is the landing page for the Canvas integration with Bigbluebutton:
https://support.bigbluebutton.org/hc/en-us/categories/1500000517441-Canvas
And here is the support article that speaks to your question on simultaneous webcams. Based on what I read on that page, I do not believe the product is designed to support such a large number of concurrent videos being visible.

Hello there, @MamathaKuchibho ...
In addition to the information that @Jeff_F provided to you earlier today, I'd also like to bring in @ffdixon to this conversation, as he might have some additional insights for you. I hope the information that Jeff and I have provided will be of help to you. Good luck!
I'm an Admin in Canvas, and I'd like to know if it's possible to change the order of items in the Account menu. Now, we have: -ePortfolio (Legacy) -Shared Items -Portfolio We'd like to have Portfolio above ePortfolio (Legacy), to encourage people to use that, but I can't find a way to do it.
We are testing a third party integration from our college's ERP provider. We have connected it to our test environment. It seems to have very few features and options. So, just wondering if there is a way to monitor API calls. I was able to use the DAPClient in Python to download canvas_logs in our production environment.…
Previously on the built-in rubrics, vertical view, the rubric items were collapsed. You could expand them to see details of each point value. Now they are expanded by default and I see no way to collapse them. When a teacher is grading 20 of the same assignment, he or she knows what each point value entails. By having them…
As "Ideas" section is gone (at least for now), I'm posting a feature request here. Mobile app shows a list of students who have submitted or not submitted a quiz/assignment. Would be good to have this in web version as well as way to export csv.
Could you please clarify about the URL structure for the new Canvas Portfolio feature after the retirement of the ePortfolios on June 30, 2026?
