How/where do I turn on the "NEW" quiz engine?
Hi @LazaroLahera ,
Are you a Canvas administrator for your institution? New Quizzes needs to be enabled by an admin.
If you are a teacher and your admin has enabled New Quizzes as an option, you will see it when you click on +Quiz. If your institution has made New Quizzes the only version that is available to you, you will see the interface open with External Tool as the submission type.
How do I create a quiz using New Quizzes?
In addition to @TrishaMeyer1's comments, I would add that you might need to turn it on at the course level. I'm an admin at my institution and we have New Quizzes available for instructors to turn on themselves in their courses if they want to. If they want it on, they go to their course -> Settings -> Feature Options and enable New Quizzes. This will make it so they get the prompt when they create a quiz to make it a New or Classic Quiz.

Suggestion: IB and AP are moving to all digital. Currently, if we want peer reviews for in class essays, we have to use the assignment feature. Could we use the quizzes feature so we can use the lockdown browser AND also assign peer reviews? This would help support the integrity of the timed essay.
I've had some faculty ask if could block agentic browsers such as Comet, ChatGPT Atlas, and Dia from being able to access Canvas. Have any schools taken a stance on this? Has Instructure mentioned any technical controls around this topic? I was unable to find any articles in a quick search, other than requiring LDB for all…
Breakout Discussions would enable instructors to orchestrate multi-phase discussions that mirror effective classroom facilitation patterns. An instructor creates a master discussion topic, then segments participants into small breakout groups for focused conversation, and finally reconvenes everyone into a unified thread…
Hi all, Quick question about the Gradebook color status for a 2-part checkpoint discussion. If a student completes the first due date (initial post) but does not complete the required replies by the second due date, is there any way for Canvas to automatically show a color (e.g., missing/late) instead of staying as…
