Once I create a rubric, is there a way to rearrange the items, or add items into the rubric, not necessarily at the end?
@southamp and @rislis , there isn't a way to do this in Canvas right out-of-the-box, but James Jones has written an easy-to-implement Canvancement that allows you to drag and drop rubric rows: Sorting Rubrics Made Easy
A workaround if your criteria are out of order is to use the duplicate feature.
Duplicate the criteria one-by-one so that they are added to the rubric in the order you want them (each duplicated criterion is added to the bottom of the rubric in the order you duplicate them).
Then, after you have them in the order you want them, delete any criteria you no longer need. That should do it.
Hello all... I wanted to point you to a few resources which might be of help:
I haven't found a way to do this. Rubrics in Canvas are AWESOME for grading - the creation of them still needs some work. Tip: If you create an external tool assignment (like with a Google Cloud assignment), make sure you attach the rubric FIRST! If you attach the external tool, the button for adding a rubric disappears.
Utter ridiculous that you can't re-order the Rubrics by row. I found questions that are 4+ years old asking for this basic UI functionality. Doesn't have to be drag-and-drop, could simply be a "move up/move down" button. Or they could sort by name so we could hack these by naming them with 01, 02, etc. in the title.
I have to delete my entire rubric because I cant move items up and down to rearrange. this seems like a simple update that would save a lot of time for teachers. We often change rubrics from year to year.... why have to reinvent it when we could just tweak it? Come on Canvas!
Another example of utter indifference by Canvas for something as basic as this.
I have to agree that it is completely absurd not to have this functionality. Really can't believe Canvas STILL doesn't have something so obvious as this.
What nonsense that this shows up as "solved." It is absurd that we can't reorder these items.
I agree. The rubric features must be updated by Canvas.
I appreciate the contributions regarding workarounds. Thank you. However, these are still workaround for what should be a basic function.
I also appreciate the work Canvas did with NEW QUIZZES and GRADEBOOK; however, in an object-hierarchy rubrics are a more basic object in that they feed/affect quizzes and gradebook.
Deleting and rebuilding a rubric in order to re-sequence it is not acceptable.
Rubric line items must be easily re-sequenced.
Hello Canvas, it's a 2020 CoVid world! We need some help here. Are you listening?
It's really frustrating that Canvas does NOT listen to its users or even to the district tech admins about features that need to be fixed. Why can't we reorder rows on our rubrics?
As many people said, it's pretty basic UI yet very useful so please do it.
Hi, I just had the same issue and I thought about the fact that file naming is sorted alphabetically and numerically. So for my solution I just put a 1. then a 2. then a 3. and so on in front of the name of the criterion and it sorted them in that order 🙂 It's not great since it gives a numerical value to the levels of achievement, but it's a solution...
I agree. It should be possible to drag both criteria and ratings without having to resort to installing or writing script.
Among all the things that I wish Canvas had is that one! Is it something that is been worked on? We had it in Blackboard (legacy) and I sorely miss and need in Canvas (we just transitioned to it from Bb). Please add this very needed feature!
I have Canvas set to drop the lowest quiz score, however, my students can only barely tell that the grade text is slightly grey when dropped. Can it have a tag like the "missing" and "exempt" ones in the student gradebook?
My Canvas shell has three different sections that all meet at different times throughout the week. I need to be able to batch edit assignment due dates by section, but right now Canvas can't filter by section for batch edit. My only option is now to manually (tediously) edit due dates for each assignment individually.
Morning! One of the more frustrating aspects of Canvas are groups and the issues that show up when copying courses that have them. But now we have yet another issue. Most recently we have had instances where people mark an assignment/discussion as a group assignment but then do not link the discussion or assignment to any…
So, we have encountered a few assignments where the Speedgrader presents the teacher with the "Empty Course" page, even though the course is not empty. I have discovered two New Quizzes in the same course where this has occurred, despite multiple students being assigned (at Module level, which passes the permission down to…
