Dear Parchment Digital Badges Community,
Badge creators know what their credentials represent. But finding the right skill within a large taxonomy can still require trying several keywords, comparing similar results, and knowing the terminology used by the taxonomy.
A badge may clearly describe a learner’s capabilities through its title, description, and earning criteria, yet creators must still translate that information into the right skills.
IgniteAI Skill Suggestions makes that process easier by quickly suggesting relevant skills from the badge information already entered.
When creating or editing a badge, creators can now receive ranked skill suggestions. They can review the suggestions, select the skills that best represent the badge, or continue searching manually.
The result is a more guided way to align badges with relevant skills, reducing time spent searching and helping creators build more meaningful, skills-rich credentials.
What’s New
Get skill suggestions based on badge content
IgniteAI Skill Suggestions uses the badge title, description, and earning criteria to identify relevant skills from the TalentNeuron taxonomy.
Once the badge contains enough information, the experience presents up to five ranked skill suggestions for the creator to review.
The suggestions are drawn from existing TalentNeuron skills. IgniteAI does not generate new skills, automatically add skills to the badge, or change the badge content.
Review, select, or request more suggestions
Creators remain in control of the final skill alignment.
From the suggestion experience, they can:
- Review the recommended skills
- Select one or more skills that accurately represent the badge
- Request additional suggestions
- Continue searching the TalentNeuron taxonomy manually
Skills that have already been selected are excluded from the suggestions, helping creators focus on additional relevant options.
The creator decides which skills become part of the badge. A recommendation is never added automatically.
Reduce the need to know exact taxonomy terminology
A badge creator may know the capability they want to represent without knowing the exact term used in the TalentNeuron taxonomy.
For example, an organization may use internal terminology, an abbreviation, or a broad description for a capability. Traditional search often requires the creator to translate that language into a recognized taxonomy term.
IgniteAI Skill Suggestions uses the badge information as context to surface potentially relevant skills, making it easier to discover appropriate options without relying only on exact keyword searches.
Creators can still use manual search whenever they prefer or when the suggestions do not reflect their intent.
Why It Matters
Skills help communicate what a learner knows and can do. Choosing relevant skills helps make badges more meaningful and gives learners a clearer way to showcase the capabilities they’ve demonstrated.
IgniteAI Skill Suggestions is helps issuers:
- Discover relevant skills more easily through ranked suggestions
- Reduce taxonomy guesswork and repeated keyword searches
- Maintain control over which skills are added
- Support more consistent skill selection across their badging programs
The feature supports the creator’s decision rather than replacing it. Issuers continue to apply their knowledge of the badge, its earning requirements, and the capabilities it represents to choose the skills that fit best.
Enable IgniteAI Skill Suggestions
IgniteAI Skill Suggestions is controlled at the organization level and is off by default.
To enable it, an organization administrator must:
- Open Organization Settings
- Select Content Settings
- Enable Allow AI-suggestion for defining related skills
- Save the organization settings
The administrator must save the setting before suggestions will become available to badge creators.
The setting is available to organizations using the TalentNeuron skill taxonomy. It takes effect after saving and does not require a taxonomy resync.
Because this is an organization-level setting, enabling or disabling it applies across the organization.
What to Expect
IgniteAI Skill Suggestions is available when creating or editing badges in the Parchment Digital Badges interface.
A few important details to keep in mind:
- Suggestions are available only for organizations using the TalentNeuron skill taxonomy
- Flexible and OSMT skill sources are not supported
- The feature may return fewer than five suggestions when there are not enough relevant results
- Suggestions are not automatically added to a badge
- Badge creators can continue using manual skill search
- The feature does not change existing badge information
- Suggestions are not available in pathways, bulk import, or V2 badge-class API workflows
- There are no changes to existing API or LTI integrations
If suggestions are not available or do not meet the creator’s needs, the badge can still be completed using the existing manual skill-selection experience.
Availability
IgniteAI Skill Suggestions will be available globally to Parchment Digital Badges customers using the TalentNeuron skill taxonomy.
- Beta environments: September 28, 2026
- Production environments: October 12, 2026
The feature will be off by default and can be enabled by an organization administrator under Organization Settings → Content Settings.
By using the badge itself as the starting point for skill selection, IgniteAI Skill Suggestions gives creators a more guided way to find relevant skills while keeping every decision in their hands.
Happy exploring,
The Parchment Digital Badges Team
