Student-View Permission to Designate Which Canvas Tab Loads First

This is a pet peeve of mine, but it's also an easy UI toggle. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy how much effort goes into the Home page tab of my courses; however, for all of my courses, the most pertinent tab is the Modules tab.

Right now, I click on my course, (load), the Home page tab opens and I click on Modules, (load), and then I can finally see my assignments and due dates instead of the syllabus/opening remarks. I'd like the ability to choose which tab the course opens first. I know the professor-view can do it; the same function just needs the permission added to the student-view with a select amount of options.

Thanks for the reply. Yup, instructors do have a setting on their end so they can decide what they would like to set as their "Home" page. Some instructors have an actual "Home" page with a welcome message and some up-front information about the course, but some instructors choose to set the "Modules" page as their "Home" page. (There are a couple more options that instructors have, too.)

You could certainly suggest your idea to Instructure (the folks that make Canvas). You can do that via the https://community.instructure.com/en/categories/canvas-collaborative-roadmap . Here are a handful of Guides that will get you started:

Hi @TrinityMason19820430 - My apologies as I'm trying to understand the scenario: are you saying that when you View As Student you want the Modules to be the first thing you see instead of a page you designed for the Home Page?

If your course "Modules" page is not the "Home" page, you could also just save the "Modules" page as a "favorite" within your browser. For example, I could navigate to my "Modules" page in my course. Then, at least in my view of my Microsoft Edge web browser, I could click on the star icon in the URL address bar to save it as a "favorite". I could then use that "favorite" throughout the duration of the course until it ends. Do you think that might be a workable option for you?

I use "favorite" tabs all the time, actually! This would be a great suggestion if my favorites tab-list wasn't already full (yes, with resources that are necessary for my courses). 😅

That's why I wish the function was available to us the same way it's available to our professors. I realize now I was slightly off with my wording too:

I wish I could designate the "Home" tab to be something other than the "Syllabus" or "Announcements" tab, as my professors so often choose. For example, in one of my courses, my professor has the "Home" tab already set to the "Modules" tab. This way, when I click on the course, I can immediately see my modules and etc.

My apologies, @TrinityMason19820430 — I thought you were an instructor in the course asking for ideas on how to design their course. Ultimately the instructor chooses the design and flow of the course. With that said, I do think a well designed Home Page (with some important course info, plus links that go directly to specific modules) can be super helpful, rather than clicking on Modules and seeing a long list of Modules (which may be out of order). Wishing you a wonderful school term!
