Are student course assignment submissions recoverable after a student drops (or is dropped) from a course?

An Instructor has asked me about whether I (as an Admin) can recover student submissions from a course where the student was dropped. The student notified the instructor that she would be unable to complete the course due to a health issue, so the instructor moved her into a later course of the same topic, dropping her from the original course. The later course is not a "section" of the original course. I am preparing to respond that I don't think the coursework is recoverable in this case, but I wanted to ask the Instructure Community if they know otherwise. Thanks!

The biggest factor here is really going to be what happened with the student's enrollment in Canvas. Was the enrollment made inactive, concluded, or deleted. If it was deleted, even as an admin you'd need to restore the enrollment to a different state to be able to see anything. If inactive or concluded, the data should still be visible, even to the instructor, if they set the gradebook filters to show those statuses.

At my institution, anyone who drops on or after the first day of the semester has their enrollment in Canvas put in the inactive status so we have records available for these exact kinds of questions/scenarios.
