Useful things removed from newest update. :(

I appreciated going to the gradebook and using the little menu at the top of the column to send a message to students who had not submitted. Why did that disappear? Is there a different way to do this now?

And I appreciated going to the gradebook and being able to select "Speedgrader" at the top of each column. Where did that go? It is cumbersome to go back to the assignment. I guess I can use the "to do" list, though I prefer to work within each course's shell.

I hope Canvas will put these utilities back in.

Hi @magret,

Those options are still available here for assignment columns:

If they are not available to you, it seems like either something on your device preventing them from showing up, or perhaps a customization your school/institution put in place for some reason.

Is there a way for me to trouble-shoot this on my own? Or should I contact our campus Canvas person?

Many thanks!

Chris

Hi @magret,

I would maybe suggest trying another browser (Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Safari) if you have an alternative available. My gut tells me this is more likely to be something your local Canvas team has changed though, so I'd honestly just reach out to them to ask.

Thank you for your quick response and helpful information!!

Is it possible you just need to mouse over the top of the column? I weirdly had trouble seeing this this morning as well, but it was still available.

Thank you, but no. Hovering does nothing. I click the three dots to show the menu and those items are not a part of my menu. :(

@magret - Just a few ideas to help -

Is the column related to an assignment?
Ensure your browser is up to date. What are the browser and computer requirements for Instructure products? - Instructure Community
Is JavaScript enabled?
Have you installed anything to browser? For example, do you have web browser extensions? Disable one at a time and retest.
Has your institution deployed any custom JavaScript? Do any of your other faculty see the same issue with assignment columns? If yes, I suggest creating a support request with your IT team.

Happy Friday! 😎

I'm afraid JavaScript is a bridge too far in my understanding. LOL I did contact our Canvas administrator. I've also done all the things I tell students to do: log out, clear cache, etc. For whatever reasons, the missing items are available for me this morning. I'm all set now, thank you! And Canvas remains a mystery. 🤣

Outcome rating descriptions
I am just curiousas to why there is not a field to enter a description for an outcome at the account level? Or at least edit the rating when you attach/link an account level outcome to a rubric. When you create a new criterion for a rubric, you enter a decription for a rating, but for an account level outcome.
