I am a science teacher who uses canvas as my primary method of assigning work, managing due dates, and quizzing.
I have 2 main issues with the platform that come up repeatedly.
Firstly, when creating questions with numeric answers for tests and quizzes, you can only have up to 4 decimal places. Anything smaller will automatically round up which many times rounds all the way to 0. I'm not really sure why this is a limitation that needs to be imposed or even how it could be a limitation of the platform. Additionally, when the answers appear in the quiz statistic pages, only the first 2 decimal places actually appear there as the displayed answer choice. The limitation of forced rounding makes it difficult to have answers which fit a required number of significant figures as the answer will frequently round when I need it to have more decimals present or the students' answers will round to 0 which basically tells them that they're doing something wrong which defeats the purpose of a quiz testing their abilities and knowledge.
My second frequent problem is with imported assignments. If your gradebook is set up to automatically assign 0s for missing work, the 0s go in instantly when importing an assignment with a past due date attached. Imported assignments should either not transfer with due dates at all or present an additional field when performing the copy to include/change the due date.
