Suggestion for Gradebook

Every semester when I copy over the previous semester's courses, I become frustrated that gradebook is displaying my assessments in an order that feels arbitrary and makes no sense for my class. When I go into the settings, I see that it is on "Default Order". Changing it to "Modules - First to Last" gets my assignments in the exact order that I want.

Would it be possible to have that setting migrate with the course? I teach five or six different courses each semester, so it becomes quite frustrating if I forget to fix the setting on a course. And it would be a great help to have settings like this carry over with a course import.

Update: I tested both importing from Course Template and from Blueprint Course and the sync functionality did not carry over the Grade view option settings. Ran a search on Instructure's site and found information that showed that this option does not sync in Blueprint courses. This is an unwelcome surprise.

Seems like others have verified that this is how things currently work. Since this is a new request, please be sure to post it to the Collaborative Roadmap, following the How do I share a contribution (formerly Idea) to the Collaborative Roadmap guide. Posting to the Collaborative Roadmap is the best way to have the idea considered (ideas posted in the general Canvas forum here are not tracked).

Hello all.

One suggestion for setting this option as a Default would be for the institution to have a Course Template that all faculty would be able to use. In the template course you would be able to set the grade View Options setting to arrange by "Modules - First to Last".

Would a Course Template be different from importing a previous course? It it set to "Modules - First to Last" in the courses I am importing from. When I reported this previously (a few weeks ago), I was informed that the current way that course imports work does not include Gradebook settings, so I should make a suggestion here.

Thanks for confirming. I guess that is the only option for now. I would hope that Instructure can either:

Make the Gradebook settings import with the rest of the course.
Allow a user to have a default setting for Gradebook.

This is definitely something I'd get behind advocating for - would be a big help for me. I manage a large number of high-enrollment classes, so end up needing to set this in 20 to 30 sections of various courses after content copy each semester. This is one of many small items that require several mouse clicks to get set up in each canvas course every semester - I have a huge checklist to work through so I can keep track of what I've done in which canvas course… This may seem like a small issue until you need to do this repetitively in a bunch of classes, then becomes mind numbing and time consuming.

I would also appreciate being able to have the setting for how student names are displayed in grade copy along with course content into new pages.

Outcome rating descriptions
I am just curiousas to why there is not a field to enter a description for an outcome at the account level? Or at least edit the rating when you attach/link an account level outcome to a rubric. When you create a new criterion for a rubric, you enter a decription for a rating, but for an account level outcome.
