Anyone got a way to identify AI in Canvas user logs? Claude code's browser seems to just be using the most recent core to chromium.
Sorry, @JACOBSEN_C -
My understanding is that Canvas user logs can show what actions occurred in Canvas, but they generally cannot show whether a browser AI plugin was used. Unless an AI tool explicitly identifies itself in network traffic or integrates directly with Canvas in a detectable way, browser-based AI assistants typically appear as ordinary browser activity, making reliable identification impossible from Canvas logs alone.
Canvas logs might provide indirect indicators such as:
However, these are behavioral clues only, not proof of AI use. A student could paste content from notes, a Word document, a textbook excerpt, or an AI tool. The log alone does not establish the source.
Perhaps of interest, I've read about the development of 3rd party tools that work as plugins to MS Word. If a student was to copy/paste from an outside source instead of writing within Word, then that action is flagged, and the student is coached via the tool interface. Make me wonder about the discussions in Canvas - at first, this seems like a desirable, but preferably optional feature.
Ok, thanks. It would be useful if the log included whether an action was done by an agent.
Like the post title says, a fellow professor keeps getting invalid username or password errors when trying to long in. She requested a password through "forgot your password?" and contacted support, but has yet to receive a response. We hadn't posted because we assumed it was just a slightly longer wait with it being the…
Is there a way for me to create a rubric that shows BOTH points and a letter grade, while the Gradebook in both my view and student view shows JUST points? I tried setting up the rubric showing a letter grade in the grading scheme, and a letter shows in the Assessment box…but then my gradebook also shows the letter grade,…
Our institution is setting up 9 institutional outcomes in Canvas. Several of our outcomes have multiple skill sets within the rubric. For example: Critical Reading – Skill Set A Critical Reading – Skill Set B Critical Reading – Skill Set C Our understanding is that Canvas Outcomes data reports can provide the overall/total…
I am just curiousas to why there is not a field to enter a description for an outcome at the account level? Or at least edit the rating when you attach/link an account level outcome to a rubric. When you create a new criterion for a rubric, you enter a decription for a rating, but for an account level outcome.
