IgniteAI Agent seems like an inferior browser extension - can it actually do anything they can't?

I am generally interested - as I've tested IgniteAI Agent against ChatGPT browser extension with computer use and it seems like it does almost nothing half as well, even when I set the ChatGPT model to very low settings. If a university has ChatGPT, Claude or Google Edu with computer/tool/browser use is there anything IgniteAI can do that they can't do much better? Eg. the other tools can setup automations for running jobs (eg. check for students not looking at canvas, not submitting assignments, dropping off on usage etc.) instead of manual prompting, can access things like sharepoint or google drive to update content, can create bespoke interactives and push to netlify, can search scopus/web of science etc. for new articles. My query is what can IgniteAI actually do that makes it even worth considering relative to those tools?

Hi @Jeff_F - thanks for the response. I do wonder though, it is so easy to setup the browser extension for ChatGPT/Gemini (it's already there in Chrome)/Claude that if someone doesn't want to do that will they be likley to try and generate prompts, verify results etc.? We are trialling IgniteAI at our univeristy and I am really struggling to find anything that it does that makes it beneficial versus those tools. I'm not shilling for any of them, I'm jsut trying to figure out why our uni would pay a substantial amount of money for this. It seems much harder to standardise as well, for example you can't just give everyone a shared folder that has things like the university style guide, rubric design best practice, student contact guidelines and policies etc. that it can source from can you?

To your points:

* Build modules - it was quite poor at that in my tests, doing worse than the existing module it tried to edit. Whereas my ChatGPT was able to do it much better, adhere to our uni style guide (given to it as a markdown file), and try and use best practice pedagogy (again given to it as a markdown file based on a lit search). I could get the ChatGPT browser to redo the entire courses modules (i.e. each week) in one shot and looking nice, IgniteAI kept failure looping and asking for permissions, then denying it, then eventually doing it and giving a mediuocre result. I recorded a video if anyone is interested. 
* Organise content - I'm curious what you mean with that. Organising pages in Canvas to make them more narratively intuitive?
* Generate rubrics - I found it quite mediocre at developoing rubrics, they looked pretty but were not well grounded in any evidence of best practice design. If we can't provide details simply of how we want them designed (i.e. give it a file with rubric design tips, search literature for best practice methods etc.) that to me is a problem. 
* Review discussions, adjust due dates, manage assignments, or analyze course activity - These are good tools, but do we have any data on how well the IgniteAI tool does this? To be honest I'd trust ChatGPT Terra or Sol much more than the Haiku model for any complex task, and I can run a follow-up pass to verify it was done properly.   
* Communicate with students - This to me is the most concerning thing, as how do you get it to communicate in the way you want without extensive, specific prompting each time? With the other tools I can give them my response "style" as markdown and it will follow "my style" guide like I do with the module design. Without that it will just give generic style responses. What impact will that have on students? 
* Without needing separate tools, API keys, browser extensions, or workflow automation knowledge - I've tried the browser extension with computer use and it didn't need any of that other than the browser extension, which is a couple of minutesd setup at most. Obviously you can use the APIs - but our uni blocked them after the hack last year - and I've found the Chrome browser control of Canvas to be outstanding. And if it did fail at something, you could use the record option to teach it.    
* It is operating within an institution's security, privacy, and governance framework - Isn't that the point of the EDU platforms for the other tools? I appreciate there are nuances to this, but realistically if you have one of those platforms covering the teaching, research and admin side of things that allows less entry points for security/privacy violations etc.

Before the initial post I trialled a bunch of tests of IgniteAI vs ChatGPT, and tried to get a feel for the pros and cons of each. I really struggled to get many/any pros for IgniteAI. AI made this table of it based on the tests:

My goal is not to disparage IgniteAI, it's to find out what this tool can do that those other tools which are owned by some of the biggest companies on the planet and that many staff are already familiar with can't do. If it is not as good as those, and results in lower quality or more generic output, to me that's a huge issue given the backlash against AI being used in teaching.

@RossClark1 - For many faculty members, the biggest value may not be that IgniteAI is "more capable" than ChatGPT, but that it is embedded where they already work. An instructor can ask it to build modules, organize content, generate rubrics, review discussions, adjust due dates, manage assignments, communicate with students, or analyze course activity without needing separate tools, API keys, browser extensions, or workflow automation knowledge.

IgniteAI Agent's strongest argument is that it is purpose-built for Canvas and can safely perform Canvas actions. This means it is operating within an institution's security, privacy, and governance framework.

But yes, for sure, ChatGPT has incredible capabilities as well.

ps. Here are two prompts to try out in ChatGPT:

* Produce a feature and capability comparison table between AI Tool 1, AI Tool 2, and IgniteAI. 
* Score which approach would have more impact on a larger percentage of faculty: using ChatGPT as a browser extension or IgniteAI?. Take into consideration a range of experience and interest in using AI. Explain why.
