I would like to learn how to interact with my fellow classmates and instructirs as far as sending in my biography or introducing myself to the students. I'm not versed in this type of technology so I will need lots of assistance moving forward. Thank you

So have I. Im finding myself writing answers down then once I figure how to navigare this discussion board, I will post what I wrote. This is all braand new to me and it doesn't help that I haven't had a class in years.

Hello to both of you and welcome to Canvas.

It appears that both of you may have come here to post something related to what you are doing in class. I'm going to guess a discussion about what you hope to learn from your class based on the origina post. If true, I would like to let you know that if you are doing this for an assignment, you are likely in the wrong location. This particular discussion area is the Canvas Community Forum. It is a location for users to come to ask for help with using Canvas, share ideas, and more, but all with the focus on HOW to use Canvas. Your teacher will likely not be looking here. For discussions related to a particular class, you likely need your course's Discussion page.

To get there, go back to your course. There are two menus on the left. The far left will have things like Dashboard, Courses, Calendar, etc. This is the Site navigation and helps get to different features of Canvas itself. Just to the right of that might be another menu that says Home at the top and has options like Pages, Modules, Assignments, Quizzes…and one that says Discussions. This menu is your Course navigation. That Discussions link is where you will have class specific discussions and is going to be the spot where your teacher and classmates will look to see what you add to the discussion.

There is a Canvas Guide if you want more of an overview of using the course discussions. I hope this helps. If you ever have questions about how Canvas works or have problems trying to do something in Canvas, then this Community is ready to help. Have a great day.

Hi @EdwinaPalmer51994085,

In order to create that specific content, you'll generally use a word processing program, with Microsoft Word being the most popular but other options like Google Docs, Apple Pages, or LibreOffice (to name a few) being available. You'd usually create your document in one of those apps, then upload it to a Canvas Assignment that your teacher has likely created.

Since Canvas is a web platform, content you create directly in it with the Rich Content Editor is usually in HTML format. HTML Format is great for web content, but is harder for things like line spacing (it can be done, but you'll need advanced skills for it). This is why I say your directions sound like they are about creating a document and uploading it to Canvas.

Since this is a community forum, none of us will have the ability to see what you are doing. You might try reaching out to your institution's tech department. They may have a help desk that can go over it with you in person. The library and your instructor can be good resources to identify if tutors are available as well.

Hi @EdwinaPalmer51994085,

As @JeffCampbell mentioned, this is a global community forum for Instructure products (including Canvas). That means questions about Canvas functionality can be answered pretty easily, but nobody here can access your account or courses to provide specific info about assignment submission requirements. In some cases, teachers may allow in-class submission or assignments, in others Canvas may be the only option.

The best advice to to reach out to your teacher (through the Canvas inbox, email, phone, or whatever options they have made available to you) or to whatever local support options your school/institution offers for students.

I am just curiousas to why there is not a field to enter a description for an outcome at the account level? Or at least edit the rating when you attach/link an account level outcome to a rubric.
