I've been using Canvas for at least 7 years. In that time I often use the gradebook to enter grades, while looking through speedgrader on a 2nd screen. I have a mix of Classic Quizzes and New Quizzes. When grading quizzes with essay type questions where the student has to type answers the gradebook shows a piece of paper and the assignment is marked as needing graded.
I'm probably going to make this sound more complicated than it is, but I'll try and go step-by-step to make the recent problem easy to follow.
in the gradebook before grading an assignment with essay questions the gradebook will look like this:
THE IS A NEW QUIZ TYPE IN THE GRADEBOOK: So in this quiz I have 8 students to grade (1 did not turn it in yet). They should have 1 point already there because there was a multiple choice question that was worth a point and it graded itself. There are several written parts we did together in class. Now I usually like to go through speedgrader and manually enter grades on the gradebook. It's faster and they really should've done the assignment correctly since we went over it together in class. so after I enter their score on the gradebook it page it looks like this:
After grading their assignments it looks like this. The lower scores I graded through Speedgrader, because they did not do the expectation. The 12's I just put the 12 in the gradebook and it saved it as they did follow along and do the expectation and it's faster to just enter the grade in the gradebook. This is working as it always has. I can sync to Powerschool just fine and it will go through.
NOW Here's a Classic Quiz example of what's going on:
This is just 1 written question. We did it together, so all I'm looking for is they were able to type out the example answer after doing it together. Now If I enter 7's for each turned in assignment in the gradebook this is what happens now.
I put a 7 for each turn-in and they still appear as if they need grading. So if I want to have this sync ready I need to go into speedgrader and manually grade in there.
To get it sync ready I need to go into Speedgrader and enter a 0 for the written parts, because the 7 I put in the gradebook goes into fudge points (which is fine in itself but it's not counting the quiz as being graded and able to sync to powerschool.) If I go into speedgrader and put a 7 for the written question it will save the score as a 14/7.
This the first year this is happening. It's only affecting Classic Quizzes with the gradebook. I'm guessing there was an update that bugged this out unintentionally and it would be appreciated if this could be fixed as for certain assignments this is a huge timesaver throughout the entire school year.
Thank you.
