I am glad that you were able to able to figure out the fill-in-the-blank question in the New Quizzes interface.
For Classic Quizzes, there are two options…one of which is just a single blank per question (the first link I provided yesterday). The other type is multiple blanks per question (the second link I provided yesterday).
If you are just doing a single blank in your question, you can just make your blank wherever you want in your question. Then, you put all possible correct answers in the boxes below that. For example:
So, acceptable answers are either the number 8 or typing out the word eight. Both would be correct.
If you are using multiple fill-in-the-blanks in your question, then you would use the square brackets to designate where your blanks should appear in your question. The example for this type of question is:
Roses are [color1], violets are [color2].
Note, you're not actually putting the exact colors within the brackets. Rather, think of "color1" and "color2" as labels for where you want to create your blanks. When you do this, below the RCE (Rich Content Editor) for this question type, a drop-down will list those labels that are in your question. Similar to my earlier example, you would just type in only the correct answers that you wanted for each of those blanks. So, for "color1", a possible answer would be red, and for "color2", a possible answer would be blue.
No matter which option you use, make sure to delete/remove any possible answer options that you're not using.

Thank you for the reply, Chris. I had the Classic Quiz setting. I had watched the video "How do I create a fill-in-the-blank quiz" but it just said "type your question here" it didn't say what to do for the "blank." I asked AI and it gave me some answers, but I couldn't tell if they were going to work or if they would display the answer (in square brackets, in back ticks, …) I spent a lot of time trying to find out how to do this, and finally asked AI how to switch to New Quizzes. So I did that; the screen tips in New Quizzes were a lot more explanatory (use back ticks around the "blank" word) so I was able to get it done. I'm still not sure how I would do it in Classic Quizzes but I don't have time to watch more videos on that one subject right now.

The fact that the teacher's gradebook view only displays the letter grade in the "override" column makes it difficult for the teacher to review grades, as the numerical grade entered cannot be determined in that view.
