Session Description
The Arlington Public Schools (VA) Office of English Learners partnered with the district’s Canvas Admin to design and implement a WIDA‑aligned Speaking Practice Course to support elementary English Learners in increasing oral language proficiency. The blueprinted Canvas courses provide students with additional and equitable opportunities to respond to prompts, record themselves speaking, build confidence, practice for ACCESS assessments, and listen to their growth over time – giving even the most hesitant learners a strong start out of the gate. Teachers benefit from ready-made courses featuring consistent design, media‑recording assignments, mastery‑based Outcomes, and rubrics to streamline feedback and monitor progress.
