Session Description
For most of human history, expertise was a scarce resource. In education, that constraint has fundamentally shifted. Today, teachers and leaders have access to a cast of thousands, researchers, editors, strategists, and specialists, at their fingertips. But abundance changes the nature of our work. This session moves beyond the "AI will replace teachers" narrative to explore a more practical reality: What happens when professionals stop being lone experts and become directors of expertise?
Drawing on nearly 30 years of educational leadership, we will examine how generative AI expands professional reach without diminishing professional judgment. We will explore concrete examples of AI as a "boring but very useful" thought partner, confront the real tensions educators face, and discover how the scarcest resource in education is not information or access or even time, it is discernment.
