Session Description
What happens when messaging moves from broadcasting to belonging? At the University of Maryland, we analyzed a full year of Canvas Impact usage data to better understand how, when, and why users engage with in-app messaging. Our findings revealed that visibility does not equal value, and that timing, targeting, and intentional design are what truly drive engagement. This session shares how we moved from volume to strategy by implementing governance processes, message frequency guardrails, and audience-targeted campaigns. We will explore how aligning message location, type (hint, systray, pop-up), and intent (deadline, awareness, emergency) significantly improves user experience while reducing fatigue.
