How can I style and adjust controls for the built in audio player that embeds in canvas pages?

Question

I teach a music history class that heavily uses embedded audio. I'd like to be able to keep the time stamp active on the media player so that students can more easily follow along. It'd also be nice to just reduce the player to the controls and progress bar, but that's less important to me.

Is there api access, or a settings guide that exists so I can see what can be modified? I'm comfortable editing html and css but can't find any resources for settings or similar.

Hi @AdamRobertsMusic,

I haven't ever seen any officially supported way to change how the default/basic Canvas media players (audio/video) display and act.  If you have 3rd party video platforms (like Canvas Studio, Kaltura, Panopto, etc) integrated into Canvas, you'd have the ability to customize the players those platforms provide a lot more.  The basic Canvas player is there, in my opinion, to let students stream audio/video in an accessible without requiring a download, but that's about it.

It's possible someone knows some CSS/JavaScript tricks for this ad would be willing to post them for you here if they see you're ask too.
