I have been practicing ungrading the past year and have been working through the best combination of options in Canvas. I want my students to focus on learning and not points, so I have created custom grading schemes and trying to hide numbers from my students as much as possible. This includes selecting the option to restrict view of quantitative data, which is on the Course Details tab of the Settings page for a course.
However, I discovered that selecting this option prohibits the use of the checkpoints option for graded discussions. This was a lot more frustrating before I figured out the details of how to make checkpoints disappear. I wondered why my courses were the only ones that seemed to be unable to use checkpoints. In my testing I learned that my numberless grade schemes do work with checkpoints, but I do not know where else numbers might appear. Hiding numbers from students is important for my implementation of ungrading.
Now that I understand the how, I can replicate the problem and made a video:
My dilemma is I want to use checkpoints with my discussions, which help my students manage their time. I also want to hide numbers from the grades page, which help my students manage their stress. Can you suggest any workarounds?
