Anything in the pipeline for Listing type = link to sub-catalogue?

Hi, I was wondering if there was anything in the pipeline so on Canvas Catalog it could link to an entire sub-catalogue?

We are using our Catalog instance to list Professional Development & Compliance courses to colleagues. For some courses, we have multiple listings (huge kudos to the multiple listings connecting to different sections in one LMS course to enable this). However, the issue we have is that some section-listings have 10+ active sign-ups. This then completely clutters our interface.

At present, we have created a dummy listing (which points to another section from the course) and has enrolment turned off (removing red enrolment closed banner) and then a URL for users to click on. However, as we know, people don't read instructions. Also, on modern storefront, we can't add JS or insert a redirect to bounce users to the sub-cat which would list all the available dates.

If there was a listing type that permitted "link directly to sub-catalogue", this would solve all our problems. Or, some other way to redirect

Hello @NickSavage26006564 - to research an answer to the question I went to the Canvas Collaborative Roadmap and then searched for 'catalog'. As I did not see anything related to your request may I suggest that you access the roadmap and share your idea?

Feature Request: Listing Type That Links Directly to a Subcatalog

Problem

Canvas Catalog works well when a course has a small number of listings. However, organizations that offer recurring training sessions often create many listings for the same course, each associated with a different section or date. As the number of active listings grows, the storefront becomes cluttered and difficult for learners to navigate.

Currently, administrators must create a placeholder or "dummy" listing and rely on instructions directing learners to a subcatalog. This approach adds administrative overhead and creates a less intuitive user experience because learners expect to click a listing and immediately see available offerings.

Proposed Enhancement

Introduce a new Canvas Catalog listing type called "Subcatalog Link" (or "Catalog Landing Page").

Instead of linking to a specific course section or enrollment opportunity, this listing type would direct learners to a designated subcatalog.

Example Use Case

A Professional Development catalog contains a course called:

• Microsoft Excel Fundamentals

Rather than displaying 15 separate listings for upcoming sessions, administrators could create a single listing:

• Microsoft Excel Fundamentals

When learners select the listing, they are taken to a subcatalog containing all available dates, modalities, and delivery options.

Benefits

• Reduces storefront clutter by replacing multiple session listings with a single entry point.
• Improves learner experience by presenting all available offerings in one location.
• Simplifies catalog management and maintenance.
• Encourages use of subcatalogs as intended organizational structures.
• Reduces confusion caused by placeholder listings and external navigation instructions.
• Provides a scalable solution for institutions offering frequent recurring trainings, compliance courses, workshops, and professional development programs.

Configuration Options

Administrators could configure:

• Target subcatalog
• Listing title and description
• Listing image
• Visibility settings
• Optional automatic redirect behavior
• Optional display of the number of active offerings within the linked subcatalog

Expected Learner Experience

1. Learner browses the Catalog storefront.
2. Learner selects a course listing.
3. Canvas Catalog automatically opens the associated subcatalog.
4. Learner sees all available sessions and enrollment options for that course topic.

This enhancement would eliminate the need for workaround listings while providing a cleaner and more intuitive navigation experience for both administrators and learners.
