This behavior has been resolved and deployed to the production environment as of 7/15/26.
Summary:
When students try to self enroll as a new user in a course nothing happens when they click the ‘enroll’ button. A 500 error surfaces in the background.
Expected Behavior:
Students should be able to enroll in self enrollment courses without an account.
Steps to Reproduce:
Prereq: Enable self enrollment on your canvas auth provider for any role types.
- Create a new course with open enrollment dates and publish it.
- Go to the course settings and turn on the option for “Let students self-enroll by sharing with them a secret URL or code”
- In an incognito window go to the self enrollment url shown on the settings page for the course after saving the option above
- Attempt to enroll as a new user and notice nothing happens after clicking enroll.
