Encountering error on student canvas account unable to take test with respondes

What do I need to change in my layout, I have enabled it to be viewed by students. However ,when I view as a student am unable to see it on their side. I have a couple students that can't authorize resondes to be used stopping the testing ability with the lockdown browser. Has anyone encountered this.

Hello @ThatDarnCat,

No matter how much you try, the "LockDown Browser" link in the left-side course navigation will only be visible to faculty in the course (including LMS admins) because its visibility is set to "admins". This is because the "LockDown Browser" link goes to the "LockDown Browser Dashboard" for configuring settings, viewing course-level statistics/results, and accessing recordings (if Respondus Monitor is used).

Canvas documentation defines "admins" for the course navigation placement as "Teachers, TAs, Designers and account admins will see the link"

Students typically get the download link for your institution's LockDown Browser in one of two ways:

by navigating to a Canvas quiz that is set to require it and by: (1) clicking on the "Take the Quiz" button and (2) the "[Download Respondus LockDown Browser]" link
by manually posting the link in a variety of locations:

an IT Department or Online Learning Department resource that everyone has access to
an external link item in a module
a link in a syllabus (either a document or the dedicated "Syllabus" area of the course)

When you say "I have enabled it to be viewed by Students" are you referring to publishing the quiz? If so, you also need to click on the Lockdown Browser link in the Canvas navigation and select the settings to require the Lockdown Browser for the quiz. See

Yes, that has been done and all but 3 can take the published quiz states the student taking the tests account does not exist.

My guess is the students have not been able to get the Respondus Lockdown Browser installed on their device. Respondus provided our school with a specific/unique download , we put a link to that in the course for students to use, then provide a practice quiz (no stakes type of quiz) prior to any actual test. The practice quiz can be as simple as one question. Were you able to get into this quiz? We also have the Respondus LDB installed on our lab computers and a virtual desktop all students have access to use, so that if they have trouble downloading and installing they are able to log in to the virtual desktop to do their tests.
