Pop-up message in Classic Quiz - "Your time for this quiz has been reduced"

Hi there. We have a completely new and baffling problem that I'm hoping to get advice on.

This morning, during exam QA checks, we started to get a pop up warning "Your time for this quiz has been reduced". It sees to appear just under 30 seconds into the quiz (in both Preview and take quiz mode), and can appear again several times. The quiz timer doesn't change so I dont think it has an effect.

None of my team has seen this before, and googling it comes back with zero hits. Does anyone know what is triggering it, and how we can get rid of it? We're using classic quizzes for exams.
